Moisture Control
In this video, Jeff Lefkowitz explains why Moisture Control is a critical component of a strong joint in post & rung chair construction.

Moisture control is controlling the moisture content of mating parts in a joint. In the Boggs chairs, the rungs are super dry (about 4% mc) while the legs are dry (about 8% mc) so this is known as Dry/Super Dry joinery. After assembly, the rung gradually takes on moisture expanding within the joint, making a tight joint even tighter.
